January 2018 report about cybersecurity in healthcare: https://www.researchandmarkets.com/research/prlclcybersecurity_in?w=12
How much longer are we going to put up with this invasion? Here's the list of the companies MENTIONED in the report. (I say "mentioned" because God only knows where else our healthcare information is going.)
Given what we know, it would be extremely naive to believe our information is being shared -not only between most companies involved in the healthcare industry, but also with their "partners." My health data belongs at my physician's office and insurance company PERIOD unless I sign a release for it to be shared elsewhere. PERIOD. My prescription information (and ONLY that) belongs at the LOCAL branch of my pharmacy. PERIOD. There's legislation pending to allow, I believe, opioid prescriptions, to be shared between the states. This isn't because they care about helping the small percentage of people pill-shopping across state lines - It's because they're looking for ANY excuse to data-mine. We need to cut this off at the knees.
ALL information-sharing needs to be OPT-IN. No sharing PERIOD without our consent and only to those parties for which we provide specific consent. Enough of this "we may share your information with our partners and other third parties" crap. Using third-parties, subcontractors, etc. is a way for them to get away with bad behavior - not unlike the way subcontracted military have nowhere near the accountability required of the "real" military.
The more sharing they do, the less secure the information becomes, necessitating even more security that WE ultimately pay for - in loss of privacy AND dollars. It's a never-ending spiral and a huge racket.
It's even more irritating that the same companies who fail to safeguard our data are repeatedly awarded multimillion-dollar contracts. This is beyond stupid!
I won't even get started on the mistakes and incorrect diagnoses in patient charts that are perpetuated by all this sharing.
Excuse the rant - and the long list (I started editing it, but gave up because it was too long. Decided it illustrated my point.) We need to stop giving these bloated, inept, and often corrupt companies our "lives." DEMAND opt-in information-sharing only, please!
